The nominations for the 78th Golden Globes were announced moments ago and brought with them honors for a number of Hollywood’s most elite names and rising stars.

However, some – including several favorites – were notable in their absence.

SNUBBED: Beyonce’s ‘Black Is King’

Queen Bey’s Disney+ blockbuster saw her quite literally venture to the Motherland to tell a powerful narrative of Black regality through song. Anchored by the music found on the compilation ‘The Lion King: The Gift,’ the star drew on talent from the African diaspora – doubling down on her commitment to showcasing the brilliance living in a people that aren’t often given the spotlight they deserve.

It’s this multi-layered, purpose-driven rationale that makes ‘King’s omission in the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category startling.

SNUBBED: ‘I May Destroy You’

Critically praised for its game-changing articulation of life after sexual abuse, Michaela Coel‘s addictive drama seemed like a shoo-in heading into award season. Not just for nominations, but for wins.

It melted geographical boundaries with its piercing performances and universal anchoring narrative. Which we, along with countless others, felt served as one of many reasons it was destined for glory at the Globes. Be that in the Outstanding Limited Series / TV Movie category or related Best Actress category given the potency of Coel’s character Arabella. And yet…nada.

Odd.

SNUBBED: ‘Lovecraft Country’

While this cutting-edge show nabbed a singular nomination for Best Television Drama Series, it baffles beyond belief that its lead stars Journee Smollett and Jonathan Majors somehow were not to be found in the related Actress and Actor categories.

Both blazed the screen with their nuanced performances that all at once captured pain, affliction, love, and sacrifice.

SNUBBED: ‘Little Fires Everywhere’

A likely victim of its release frame (see: very early in the eligibility window), it still surprises that the gripping title wasn’t present in the Best Television Limited Series category; nor were the stellar performances given by Kerry Washington or Reese Witherspoon rewarded in the related Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories. Given its shine on the Primetime Emmys nominations list, its snub here stings the more.

SNUBBED: ‘Malcolm & Marie’

Most won’t have seen the Netflix drama just yet, given that it received a limited run last month ahead of its wide release on the streamer on February 5.

That Grape Juice was lucky enough to catch an early screening of the flick and its omission from the nomination tally is baffling.

Both Zendaya and John David Washington masterfully capture the complexities of the modern relationship in an ambitious format that may polarize but we feel more than succeeds.

SNUBBED: ‘The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel’

It’s no secret that Lifetime movies aren’t at the front of the line for award nominations. And, in being frank, we were not holding our breath for this flick.

However, The Clark Sisters biopic serves as one of those instances where the trend of auto-shunning should have been bucked. Because to deny Aunjanue Ellis of a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of matriarch Mattie Moss Clark is to deny excellence.
