Jennifer Hudson is being tipped for awards glory ahead of the unveiling of her performance in Aretha Franklin biopic ‘Respect.’

Prior to the premiere of the MGM movie, the Oscar and GRAMMY winner poses it up on the cover of InStyle‘s August / Badass Women issue.

As well as styling and profiling for the Chrisean Rose lensed spread, Hudson seized the moment to discuss being handpicked by the Queen of Soul for the role, her ultimate goal in the entertainment industry, and more.

More after the jump…

On Meeting Aretha Franklin & Being Chosen To Play This:

“I remember when we first sat down, ooh, I was terrified to be at the table. Aretha said, ‘What? Are you shy or something?’ I said, ‘Well, I am talking to the Queen of Soul!’ She said, ‘Jennifer, you’re going to do this,’ I’m like, ‘Well, I’ll do it if she says I can do it, if she thinks I can.’ That’s Ms. Franklin!”

On Her Acting & Musical Performance In The Film:

“I feel like it’s my tribute to her legacy and I just hope I did her proud.”

On Her Goals In Music & Beyond:

“I want to be in this industry until the day I die and do what I love.

[I want to have something on the scale of a studio too] Like Harpo Studios. I would like to be like a pioneer in the industry, one of the older generation just giving other people opportunities.”

‘Respect’ arrives in US theaters on August 11.

I like Jennifer, but that cover has her looking like 1940s Annie on a come up. Lol. I think the movie will do good.

So Aretha had no clothes on underneath the blue coat with big titts. Totally naked with boots on in the top pic. Aretha was a ho Cuz that’s what the picture says

Perhaps a caption of ‘submissive women’ would be a better fit than ‘bad@** women’ for the cover image of her reclining against the back of a chair with her legs spread in a ‘come hither and do me’ pose. Calling this cover for a future ‘unfortunate implications’ meme…
