Following the end of a sold out, 20-date Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace, Usher sent his fans into a frenzy earlier this week when he formally announced intent to return to Sin City for a 23-date run at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
Ahead of its July 15 kick off, the 43-year-old has already hit the ground running in its promotion – doing a number of interviews to drum up buzz for the summer concert series.
Among said press appearances was a virtual visit to Los Angeles’ Power 106 FM’s ‘Power Mornings‘ Thursday (February 17). Chatting it up with resident hosts Letty and Teddy, the singer not only detailed how his next Vegas jaunt will differ from his previous but also confirmed his interest in headlining a future Super Bowl Halftime show.
Ush counts himself among the many imparting praise to this year’s star-studded Super Bowl Halftime show headliners Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg.
‘I’m a fan of the history that is Dr. Dre and everything that he has represented, where he’s been, and what he’s created musically…,’ the ‘Burn’ singer started at the 8 minute mark. ‘I was so proud to see as a fan of the culture of Hip Hop that is Dr. Dre and that is Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg to see them represent for the world in the way that they did.’
When quizzed on if he’d ever consider headlining a future halftime show, he made clear it’s very much a goal.
‘It would definitely be on my bucket list of things to do,’ he said while reminding the hosts he actually performed as a supporting act during the Black Eyed Peas-headlined halftime show in 2011. ‘I’ve been bitten a little bit by what that feeling is. To be a performer on that stage is a historical moment. I can’t say there’s anybody who’s had a career that wouldn’t want to celebrate with their fans there.
Usher jokingly suggested his fans should give the show’s planners a nudge to make it happen.
‘I wish there was a petition that could start though,’ he concluded.
Nobody is asking… 💅🏾 Unless we are still living in 2010s💯
Yeah cause Dr. Dre, Snoop, 50 and Mary performed hits from 2022 lol.
Enough with the flat screens haha 😂, should have asked for a slot this year Sir.
Ushers Superbowl will definetly be better than Justin, Janet, and Bruno Mars with the right setlist but idk if he has many “Superbowl ready” songs in his catalog.
{Good luck Usher cuz The Queen & MJ will be hard to beat. One thing about their performance is they definetly aged well. Both are #CLASSIC. The Legendary Stephen A Smith placing Beyonce at #1 and #2 on his Best Superbowl Performances list is hilarious to me. Poor MJ.}
