Demi Lovato’s ‘Holy Fvck’: That Grape Juice’s Top 5 Tracks

Published: Monday 22nd Aug 2022 by Ryan

Demi Lovato has unleashed ‘Holy Fvck’ – their eight studio album.

Led by the rocking ‘Skin of My Teeth,’ the set sees Lovato explore themes of love, grief, and more.

That Grape Juice has been spinning the LP since its release. Join us below to find out which five tracks are essential on ‘Holy Fvck.’

5. 4 Ever 4 Me

The phrase “in like a lion and out like a lamb” is certainly true of ‘Holy Fvck.’ Where the album begins with roaring guitars and pounding drums, the closing track instead opts for a lighter, Goo Goo Dolls-esque sound. Lyrically, the song explores the possibility of Lovato finding love once more and being happy. While it is a stark contrast to the rest of the album, ‘4 Ever 4 Me’ is nonetheless one of the project’s strongest tracks.

4. Come Together

‘Holy Fvck’ has been touted as Demi’s “rock” album, but it is clear that the pop side of the singer hasn’t fully disappeared. Case in point, the pop-rock sounds of ‘Come Together.’ An expert blend of pop melodies and rock instrumentals, the song serves as a light moment in an album packed full of heavy themes. Not to mention the clever wordplay will make you do a double take more than once.

3. City of Angels

Make no mistake, while it may be titled ‘City of Angels,’ the song delves into some of the most sensual human desires. Further expanding upon the religious undertones of ‘Holy Fvck,’ Demi asks their partner to help them explore everything but the city they reference. Another pop-punk banger knocked out of the park, Lovato once more proves that her wordplay is among some of the wittiest out there.

2. Happy Ending

Ditching the horny and religious undertones of the album, a box of tissues is needed when listening to ‘Happy Ending.’ Performed from a place of raw vulnerability, Lovato finds healing from the pain. There won’t be any concrete answers by the end of it, but sometimes that’s just how life works. Instead, its intent and goal is to make you feel something deeper and more emotional and it achieves that. One of Lovato’s most tender songs to date, ‘Happy Ending’ stands among the best of the year.

1. Substance

Demi Lovato started out in pop-punk with her 2008 debut album, and ‘Substance’ is the closest thing we have to a re-creation of that. Lyrically, the song is all about society’s lack of connection, however, the production is downright pure fun with peppy guitars and throbbing drums. Pure angst at its finest, ‘Substance’ sees Lovato at their most lively.
