With over 100 million records sold worldwide, Pop Empress Janet Jackson reigns as one of the best-selling female artists in history on the global front – a ranking she seems poised to extend as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently updated the certification statuses of a slew of her classic hits.
Details inside.
Monday (November 14), the RIAA took to press to reveal several of the diva’s most memorable singles had new certifications attached to them. Leading the bunch was her 1993 Hot 100 chart-topping hit ‘That’s the Way Love Goes.’
The inaugural single from her chart-topping, eponymous album released the same year, the song – with its 8-week reign atop the Pop chart – marked a personal milestone for Jackson as it became her longest-running #1 hit to date. In fact, no member of the legendary Jackson family (including King of Pop Michael Jackson) can boast holding the top spot of the Hot 100 for as long.
As such, it’s only fitting the tune – now at 2x Platinum – would become the first multi-Platinum hit of her career (in America). The measure denotes sales of 2 million in the United States.

2x Platinum
- ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’ (Single)
1x Platinum
- ‘When I Think of You’ (Single)
- ‘Rhythm Nation’ (Single)
- ‘Anytime, Any Place’ (Single)
- ‘I Get Lonely’ (Single)
- ‘Escapade’ (Single)
- ‘All For You’ (Single)
- ‘If’ (Single)
- ‘Feedback’ (Single)
- ‘Nasty’ (Single)
- ‘Together Again’ (Single)
And though ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’ now has the distinctive honor of being her sole multi-Platinum single, her legendary albums are no strangers to such certification.
As of time reported, 1989’s ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ and 1993’s ‘Janet‘ are her highest-certified bodies of work, both sitting at 6x Platinum. Her breakthrough album, 1986’s ‘Control,’ sits at 5x Platinum while 1997’s ‘The Velvet Rope’ swings in at 3x Platinum and 2001’s ‘All For You’ LP is 2x Platinum.
What we really need is album recerts tho
It took a god damn 30 years to achieve this s h I t 💅🏾… oh granny Janet, how’s your hips hunnie… winter is coming and I know it ain’t easy for you 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Artists back then sold albums, sweetie!!
Don’t mind marilyn montrosity 👠 (#1,000,000,000,000,000 DIVA) 😂
*MONSTROSITY* 👠 lmaooooooooo 😂
Not to mention Janet has ten #1 hits along w/ #1 albums throughout 4 different decades. Her team has been slow to update certs and improve her digital footprint. Thennnn she was blacklisted for YEARS on top of it. Janet is still a LEGEND with PLENTY of recipts.
@marilyn monh-O-E ® 👠(#1 DIVA), I was thinking the same thing, lol. Stripper granny Janet should keep her tacky ways and go back to your stripper days. She was riding on her 𝓹𝓮𝓭𝓸 brother’s name, and this is all she achieved as a stripper “singer”.
Got that rightttt💅🏾 Diva loves the improved fancy bish. The tasteless fake one needs to go, like right now. OUT!
But how many have to sold?
Janet is the BLUEPRINT.
Simple check to Riaa proves this article as false. It sold 2 million “more” recently not total ! The Janet album 21 million copies ! Get her stats correct
Correct.!!!
Congratulations 🎉 Janet Jackson

Her discography is under certified
Janet and 1814 both sold over 10 million copies
Because of her 93, and 95 album deal she owns and controls all her material and masters. So the labels can no longer report sales to the RIAA since the material is hers.
She doesn’t seem to be worried about re certifying.
It’s also the reason her videos on YouTube don’t have many views and are constantly removed.
