Ed Sheeran may be no stranger to seeing his releases sail to the top of the charts, but the musical current seems to be working against his latest studio effort: the May 5-released ‘Subtract.’
Beyond watching its lead single, ‘Eyes Closed,’ crest at #19 on the Hot 100, the album itself opened at #2 on the Billboard 200 – becoming his first LP to miss the top spot since 2011’s ‘Plus.’ What’s more, the 14-track affair had already sunken to #49 in just a little over a month.
To turn the tide, Sheeran is moving full steam ahead with promotion of the ‘Subtract’ second single ‘Boat.’
Released April 21 alongside a Mia Barnes-directed music video, the Aaron Dessner-produced track has so far failed to crack the Hot 100 but could soon be rowing in that direction thanks to a peek at the behind-the-scenes look at the creation of its accompanying clip.
