Netflix has officially renewed ‘A Different World’ for season 2, just eight days after the beloved franchise returned with its new generation.

Now, its sophomore year is officially a go.

Per Netflix, season 1 debuted at #4 on its Global Top 10 English TV chart with 4.2 million views and reached the Top 10 in 15 countries.

Season 2 will pick up following the students’ transformative summers, with Deborah and her classmates returning to Hillman armed with a “New Year, New Me” mindset. Naturally, old decisions, new romances, shifting friendships, and plenty of fresh mess await them.

Executive producer and director Debbie Allen celebrated the news in characteristically animated fashion:

“YAY! HALLELUJAH! The people and NETFLIX have spoken. A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and HEART! Thank you for getting us into the Top 10 worldwide! And now, gear up! We’re coming back at you with Season 2!!”

Creator and showrunner Felicia Pride added:

“It’s so validating to be bolstered by our amazing audience. We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations.”

The swift renewal adds another win to the revival’s launch. Its opening theme, performed by Brandy, has already amassed more than 1.3 million global streams. TGJ readers will recall that the Vocal Bible put her own spin on the iconic theme for the new series.

A season 2 premiere date has yet to be announced, but one thing is certain: this revival has the culture all sorts of buzzed!
