Victoria Monet‘s breakout single, ‘On My Mama,’ already reigns in her discography as the highest-charting hit she’s landed on the Hot 100 to date (#48 peak as of time of this report).
But, if her dream to assemble fellow Southern belles Megan Thee Stallion and/or Beyonce on a remix comes true, it’s undoubted the inescapable bop will skyrocket even higher on the hitlist.
Ahead of learning the D’Mile-produced cut (and other songs from her latest album ‘Jaguar II‘) had pounced to a whopping 7 nominations at the 2024 GRAMMYs, Monet hopped over to the Interval Presents Rap Radar podcast to discuss the success of the song, her career-at-large, and so much more.
When discussion of dream collaborations came up, the hosts made it known they’re looking for Stallion (born Megan Pete) to trot on the official remix to ‘Mama.’
“I really have been trying to manifest that,” she said in response to the Meg question.
And while Vickie later admitted she’s hung out with the GRAMMY-winning rapstress before, she didn’t feel it was the right time to bring up the remix request.
Elaborating on dream duets, the 34-year-old made clear Pete wasn’t the only high-profile Texan in her sights.
“Definitely her; definitely Beyonce would be like obviously a dream,” Monet relayed. “It just makes so much sense just being that they’re both from Texas and it’s just a such a cultural thing. But, I would be honored if it’s not that just doing anything with Meg because people say we’re twins.”
The ode to the Lone Star State would be fitting given that ‘Mama’ prominently samples the 2009 hit of Texas rapper Chalie Boy titled ‘I Look Good.’
Beyonce wasn’t the only Destiny’s Child alum getting mentioned by Monet in the chat, however.
Having recently turned heads inside the pages of ‘Rolling Stone‘ with Kelly Rowland, Victoria gave the ‘Flowers‘ singer her flowers in a big way.
“She has been such an amazing role model and sister figure and it’s really crazy to be having conversations with her because she’s someone that I looked up to,” she said about Rowland (who hasn’t been shy about praising the rising R&B singer-songwriter’s hustle herself). “Any compliments [Kelly] gives feels like a real privilege or dream come true to just hear that from an idol.”
