New Music: Syleena Johnson – ‘Angry Girl (ft. Tweet)’

Published: Tuesday 13th Sep 2011 by TGJ Staff

One time R. Kelly protoge, and the soulful voice behind Kanye West’s 2004 hit ‘All Falls Down’– Miss Syleena Johnson– is gearing up for the release of her fifth studio album. The aptly titled Chapter V: Underrated, is set for release later this month, while the forthcoming LP’s second single, ‘Angry Girl’, has been making it’s way around the internet for a few weeks. The Toxic (Keyshia Cole, Jamie Fox) produced song features fellow R&B vocalist Tweet.

The Grammy-nominated songstress reveals, ‘Angry Girl’ is “A woman to woman song addressing the anger some women have against men, how that leads to their lack of trust, and the impact that has on women who are ready for love.” Source

Chapter V: Underrated is in stores September 27, 2011!

Yassss That grape juice, we NEED more post like this. Syleena is so talented. How will artist like her ever get exposure when blogs dedicated to her own genre don’t even promote her? It’s nice to see a new face. I think it would be great if you guys reached out to do an interview with more artist like her, Tweet, Faith Evans.

I’m a huge fan of Britney, Gaga, Rihanna and Co. but I also appreciate soul singers like Syleena Johnson

Post like these are so refreshing to see. Many urban blogs talk the talk, but refuses to walk the walk. If we want them to get more exposure, it starts with us!

As for the song, I really enjoyed it. Both women have amazing voices, and their albums are beautiful for start to finish. Espically Tweets’ “Southern Hummingbird”. That CD stays in heavy rotation in my iPod 🙂

    Tweet is so underrated!!

Oh and Syleena should give R. Kelly a call to pen a song for her. That’s the only way I can see her obtain some moderate success.

i swear i though she was angela winbush on the pic…& tweet sound like michelle from destiny child on this song but very different & mellow

    Nicely done!!

  16. NATE September 14, 2011

Syleena’s last album was probably one of the best R&B albums in a while, it defiantly had some potential hits.

  17. Almond Joy September 14, 2011

Hopefully Sam sees the impressive turnout for this post and blogs more about these often overlooked but TRUE R&B artists. Its nice to focus on mainstream/ commercial acts but you can’t write those long winded essays about R&B being dead but don’t do anything to rectify the situation. Get it together Cranberry Juice.

    Love it!!

  19. TINA POO September 16, 2011

Syleena has always had a beautiful voice and eye opening music realistically at some point this song will have someone really thinking about their actions

  20. Chigurl September 18, 2011

I love this song!! Syleena’s voice is amazing and very underrated!! I love the mellow sound of Tweet!! With these two together this songs should be number one!!! Everyone should respect Syleena’s talent by itself, she doesn’t need R Kelly to showcase her amazing voice!!! Well from the preview of Chapter V: Underrated she’s doing just fine without him. That album comes out September 27…everyone should get it!!!
