After much ado and high anticipation, the Conan O’Brien-hosted 97th annual Academy Awards aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2.

When the audience wasn’t wowed by a soaring homage to ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ‘The Wiz,’ and ‘Wicked‘ courtesy of the opening number from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, they were treated to stirring tributes to the James Bond franchise (RAYE, Doja Cat, LISA) and the memory of Quincy Jones (Queen Latifah).

Ariana and Cynthia did an amazing job, but it seemed like they just threw that performance together. It was very brave for Doja to sing that Shirley Bassey song. But it was too big for her voice. All in all the show wasn’t that good
