According to our ever-reliable friend Jawn Murray over at AOL Black Voices, the youngest Solange has severed ties with Interscope Records.

Her departure from the label comes on the heels of the poor performance of her only release on the Universal-owned imprint, ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’, which to-date as sold in the region of 150,000 since it’s release in August 2008.

The youngest of the Knowles clan is currently recording her 3rd studio album under the Music World imprint, however there is no official word on any major label involvement for distribution. {Source}

Putting aside all the comparisons, preferential treatment accusations and general hating folk like to do on Solange, I must say she turned in a great album with ‘Sol-Angel’, which IMO deserved to perform a lot better. With no known major label in the picture, it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of her next project. I’m sure Papa Knowles will ensure is hooked up nicely; that said, whether the buying public will take to her this go round remains to be seen.

*Update* Solange has confirmed her departure from the label on Twitter, stating:

Although it’s been a wonderful journey & experience at Interscope Records, after truly recognizing what’s important to ME as an artist, I decided it was time for me to continue my path on a more independent platform. I’m excited about continuing to dive in, experiment and creating music and art with no boundaries, fears or expectations.

    I hear through the grape vine that Amanda Ghost, who is now in charge over at Epic, I believe, is trying to sign her…

    I heard Solange was DROPPED. Now, she’s trying to make it seem like she broke ties with them. In my opinion, she should have been dropped a long time ago…her first album didn’t do anything nor this album. And, the bad thing about it is , Solange had a lot of promo with this album. She had done a commercial with her sister…with her music playing in the background, and the performance at the mtv awards. After all that promo, and still only sold 150,000 copies. If she was not Beyonce’s sister, her b*** would have been dropped a LONG TIME ago.

    @ DILLPICKLE, I agree with your last point. Solange and Bey’s situation reminds me of Michael and Janet. It took Janet a while to get herself together and change her image and sound to become her own artist and separate from the “Michael Jackson’s Little Sister” title, and I feel as though Solange is going to have to do the same thing to make a name for herself in the industry. Good luck to her on her next project though.

    On another note, thank goodness daylight savings time is here and the clock goes back an hour, because I’m gonna be losing some sleep tonight trying to figure out where the hell she was going with that photo. A mess, child, a mess…lmao!

    It’s funny how Solange getting dropped took six months to surface while Kelly’s break for freedom was made public and twisted against her right away.
