Mary J. Blige is in her lover girl era.
The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul has a long, illustrious catalog of lovelorn anthems, but this Valentine’s Day, she’s celebrating the season with a smitten new anthem.
MJB unwrapped ‘More Than A Lover’ moments ago ahead of the big day.
Trumpeting news of the track, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer wrote:
“I was sitting back relaxing minding my business”…..then love found me 😏 Happy Valentine’s Day!!!! New music today!”
‘Lover’ arrives ahead of Blige’s Las Vegas residency, ‘My Life, My Story,’ which kicks off at Dolby Live at Park MGM in May.
Take a listen below…

The production sounds cheap, static-like, and echoey. The vocal performance sounds overly treated. I wanted to like this, but I don’t. Mary needs a major label. She doesn’t have the writing or production chops someone like Mariah Carey has that makes independent releases sound of the same quality as major label efforts.
You Loser. It sounds dope asf. Your so hyped on auto tune high frequency super reverb sounds u dont know stacks and real rnb sounds. Your a loser
Nahh…she is a done deal.
Very few are able to maintain their voices through the years. Patti is one of the only ones I can think of who still got it. Mary used to be able to sing down, but things have changed. Not only that, but this song as far as quality is concerned is unacceptable for an artist of her caliber. Sound bad. Vocals bad. Mixing bad. Come on, Mary. You look great ma ma, but this ain’t it. It’s time to start a business or something. Mary’s home decor. Mary’s burritos. Something.
Granny J Blige should retire
