Samuel Monroe Jr., a veteran actor whose career spanned over three decades, died at age 52 on Wednesday (August 26).
Monroe Jr. is most famous for his memorable roles in 90’s classics like ‘Menace II Society,’ ‘Tales from the Hood,’ ‘The Players Club,’ and ‘Set It Off.’
His family took to social media to announce he passed away following a battle with meningitis.
“I want to thank all of my Facebook family and friends new and old for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son,” the actor’s mom, Joyce Patton, wrote on the platform. “But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family especially his 3 children.”
In April, the ‘Menace II Society’ star was hospitalized after the infection spread to his brain and spine, leading to MRSA pneumonia and kidney issues. Later, in July, he suffered multiple seizures and severe brain swelling leading him to have to undergo multiple brain operations.
At the top of August he was placed on life support in a medically induced coma. He succumbed to the condition this week.
Monroe Jr. is survived by his life partner Shawna Stewart, their three children, and a stepdaughter.
