The incident occurred just days after Parton’s death at age 80. A fan named Lore Corona posted a video on social media showing extensive scratches across the singer’s name. She said she arrived about 10 minutes after the vandalism.

According to Corona, a custodian at the scene told her a woman kicked around candles left at the memorial and used the shards to scratch the star. The same post alleged that a man then stole flowers left by fans.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce confirmed the vandalism. Ana Martinez, a spokesperson, said the star had already been on a repair list due to cracks. The Hollywood Historic Trust moved the timeline up to honor Parton’s legacy.

Repairs began on Tuesday, September 1. The new star will be available for viewing on Friday.

The Hollywood Historic Trust said in a statement:

“The Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star. The new star will be available for viewing this Friday.”

The star was originally dedicated in 1984.
