John Legend is switching up the sonic script for his next musical chapter.

The EGOT winner has announced new album ‘Muse,’ and he has enlisted Pharrell Williams to produce the project in its entirety.

Alongside the announcement, Legend has unlocked lead single ‘Daylight.’

More than two decades into a career synonymous with soaring piano-led ballads, the 47-year-old says the aim this time was simple: shake things up.

“I wanted to shake up the formula and do something fresh and new.”

Enter Pharrell.

Despite a friendship stretching back more than 20 years, ‘Muse’ marks the pair’s first full-length project together.

Interestingly, the seeds were planted when Legend featured on Clipse’s comeback album ‘Let God Sort Em Out’. His vocal turn on ‘The Birds Don’t Sing’ inspired Pharrell to build an entire body of work around his voice.

The result is a 16-track set drawing from Gospel, Soul, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, doo-wop, and classic standards. Legend describes its cinematic sonic palette as possessing a “Black James Bond aesthetic” with a modern backbone.

Pharrell appears across several songs, while Clipse guests on ‘Bodies On The Floor.’

The launch also comes amid a wider professional reset for Legend, who recently joined Roc Nation for management after ending a 20-year run with his previous manager.
