Monica has been all the rage this morning with the release of her new LP ‘New Life’ and an incredible performance of ‘It All Belongs To Me’ featuring Brandy.
To promote ‘New Life’ the 31 year old songstress stopped by Bravo‘s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen for an entertaining interview. During the 1-on-1 chat the vocalist revealed dreams of one day collaborating with SoundScan‘s top selling female artist of all time–Mariah Carey.

Monica on potentially working with MC: “She [Carey] is phenomenal and her range is unbelievable. I’ll give my yes now, and then you find her and ask her and I will go where she is.”
Keeping in mind both artists’ vocal similarities, abilities, and strengths — a duet between the two has the makings to become a modern R&B classic.
Monica may want to reconsider that because Goddess Mariah would slay Monica vocally and take over the song, Trust!
I don’t know about this one. Monica can sing but sometimes her tone is a bit off. I just don’t know

Can’t watch it BUT in regards to a potential collab i think it’s great that the power vocalled females can combine and make strong songs.
They both very close to JD so he should be at the helm of that one i think and B.C**, Johnta Austin, Adonis get to writting.

Interesting, I never thought of this combo. I don’t think their voices really blend, but I would have to wait and see what they come up with. I think Mariah is pretty versatile though.

You never know. Nicki once said she wanted to collab with Mariah, Britney, & Madonna. People thought she was delusional but funny how the future works out. Besides, Mariah has collabed with Gucci Mane! At this point Mimi has no standards!

Well we all know Whitney was her first choice but unfortunately, that won’t happen. I don’t think Mariah will work with Monica. I could be wrong though. Don’t see how there voices would work together. Mariah’s whispers and whistle notes mixed with Monica’s low and mid-belts. IDK, but I love both. So maybe….
No disrespect to MiMi, but it’s 2012 and her singing has gotten worse with all that cat pering and whispering she does Monica would tear MiMi a new one effortlessly. Now give me Mariah 95′ and Monica 2012 and they would sing the vinyl off a record!

In 1998 MC would be the superior for sure. But in 2012, NO MA’AM! Monica would slay her. Monica’s voice is very powerful. I realize now that she often holds back. The only reason Brandy keeps up during their duets is because she knows how to adlib and she brings emotion to the song. In terms of actual power, I would place monica in the same room as J-hud and Xtina.

Their voices are very different but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work, I think it would work more because they’re so different, look at Shakespears Sister (although Shakespears Sister has been just Siobhan Fahey for the last 4 albums) when it was the two of them, completely different voices.
Monica never sounds “off” either, I can see a number one debut for Monica’s “New Life” album this week 😉
