After many a murmur, it’s official: the Olympics 2020 will not be taking place as planned due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Officials for the Tokyo bound festivities had hoped to press on. Yet, with the colossal amount of planning that goes into the summer spectacle, the globe’s current predicament has rendered the possibility of pressing on impossible.

Japan’s Prime Minister Abe Shinzo broke the news moments ago, saying:
“I proposed to postpone for about a year and (IOC) president (Thomas) Bach responded with 100% agreement.”
A formal statement from organizers read:
The ceremony had been set to commence on July 24th.
An unprecedented move, the delay follows a wave of postponements and outright cancellations of events worldwide as countries – individually and collectively – ramp up efforts to quell the spread of the virus.
