FBI Investigates Death of MN Black Man After Video Shows Police Kneeling on His Neck

Published: Tuesday 26th May 2020 by Rashad

In a video shared to social media Tuesday (May 26), a Minneapolis police officer is seen pinning his knee against the neck of a handcuffed black man on the ground who is struggling to breathe.

“I cannot breathe! I cannot breathe!” the cuffed man yells. “Don’t kill me!”

The unnamed man, who is believed to be in his 40s, did not die on the scene but reportedly died of a “medical incident” while in custody of medical workers.

Now, the FBI and state authorities are already investigating his death as advocates – including city officials like the city’s mayor Jacob Frey – call for a quick resolution.

The incident seen above occurred after police responded to a report of a “forgery in progress” on Monday (May 25). The man reportedly resisted arrest, which led to his subduing and eventually his death.

As cries for the officers’ termination and prosecution increased, Frey took to a press conference to respond:

“Being black in America should not be a death sentence,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said during a news conference Tuesday. “For five minutes, we watched as a white officer pressed his knee to the neck of a black man. For five minutes. When you hear someone calling for help, you are supposed to help. This officer failed in the most basic human sense.”

The officers involved, who have not been publicly identified, were placed on paid administrative leave (according to the city’s chief of police).

We have to keep recording them each and every time that they approach us. It won’t stop until they see they will be exposed each and every time. It’s scary. But we have to keep filming these people or they’ll keep knocking us off for doing nothing

Just shameful. When will people realize POC are not standing for this treatment anymore! Anytime a POC is pulled over it stopped, someone starts recording. You’re always on candid camera! Act with some sense! Stupid. Praying for this mans family. An unnecessary tragedy
