Moments ago, the House passed an article charging the 45th president with “incitement of insurrection” for his role in last week’s shocking storming of Capitol Hill.
The historic move comes exactly one week after the incident and one week before successor Joe Biden is sworn in as next president of the US.
As for what happens next?
In the immediate, Trump will stay in office and most likely serve out the rest of his term. For, it takes a Senate conviction to remove a sitting president after being impeached.
And a trial before Biden’s inauguration has already been deemed unviable by several leading figures.
Still, the ramifications if convicted will be severely serious.
