Breonna Taylor’s Death: Four Police Officers Arrested on Federal Charges

Published: Thursday 4th Aug 2022 by Sam

Four police officers have been federally charged for their roles in the death of Breonna Taylor.

In a case that shocked the world and was crucial to re-amplifying the pulse of the Black Lives Matter movement, Taylor was shot to death in her home in Louisville, Kentucky.

Plainclothes officers executed a “no-knock” search warrant and opened fire on the unarmed Black woman as she lay in bed.

Prior to now, only one of the police involved (Brett Hankinson) was charged in relation to the case after firing 10 shots. There was public outcry after he was acquitted earlier this year.

Now, a fresh twist has given new hope in the quest for justice.

Full story below…

All four officers have been arrested.

Hankinson has been charged again, this time federally, for his participation in the incident by the US Department of Justice.

The others are former officer Joshua Jaynes and current officers Kyle Meany and Kelly Hanna Goodlett.

Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed that the quad is being charged with civil rights offenses, unlawful conspiracy, unconstitutional use of force, and obstruction.

All but Hankinson have also been charged with falsification of a search warrant.

Hankinson has been further charged with using excessive force by opening fire during the raid.

It’s been revealed that the search warrant on Taylor’s apartment was related to the belief that her then-boyfriend Jamarcus Glover was involved in a drug ring and was sashing drugs at her residence. No drugs were found and the warrant was canceled after the shooting.

Taylor’s family went on to sue Louisville police and eventually reached a settlement to the sum of $12 million.

The shooting, together with the killings of unarmed Black men George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, ignited a wave of racial justice protests across the globe.
