Christine Wonsley is speaking out. The grieving mother revealed she received anonymous hate mail just days before burying her 18-year-old son, Nolan Wells.

Wells, a Mississippi football player, disappeared on July 4 after traveling to Horn Island with friends. Authorities recovered his body on July 6. Initial indications did not point to foul play, but the family has pressed for answers.
The hate mail features a defaced photo of Wonsley at a press conference with Rev. Al Sharpton and attorney Ben Crump.
The sender drew arrows from their eyes pointing to Wonsley, followed by dollar signs, a trope used to discredit Black activists.
Wonsley fired back on Facebook. She wrote:
“Whoever sent this to my home, may the good Lord have mercy on your soul. Bold enough to send this crap but not bold enough to list your return address.”
She added:
“This is America where a grieving mother and father have to deal with this type of behavior because we asked a simple question of what happened to our son and accepted all the help we could get to find answers. Please go touch some grass.”
Race has become a talking point in the case. Wells was a Black teen who had been out with white friends.
The family has retained Crump and commissioned an independent autopsy.
Funeral services are scheduled for July 20.
