Serena Williams is keeping perspective following her highly publicized return to the Wimbledon Championships despite seeing her singles comeback cut short.

After falling in the opening round to rising star Maya Joint, the tennis icon took to Instagram to share a heartfelt reflection on the moment, celebrating the opportunity to return to the grass courts once again. She shared on her Instagram that:

“It felt so good to be back on the grass at @wimbledon. I’m incredibly thankful for the wild card”

Williams went on to reveal that while she suffered a knee injury late in the opening set, she’s already focused on recovering in hopes of competing in doubles alongside her sister Venus Williams.

Most touching, Williams said she was grateful her daughters witnessed firsthand that:

“my daughters got to see that it’s never too late to chase something you love.”
