After Tyra Banks was forced to reprimand a cycle 21 contestant on ‘America’s Next Top Model’ for taking a seemingly homophobic shot at a fellow model, the star has seen the hit show bake a fresh batch of controversy.

For, after public votes saw her return to the competition after being eliminated by Banks and her current lineup of judges, model Chantelle Brown Young has blasted the show’s on-screen creative director Yu Tsai for calling her a panda.

Her problem with the nickname? Its supposed reference to her rare skin condition, Vitiligo.

How she responded? Peep a preview of tonight’s episode of ‘Top Model‘ to find out below…

He didn’t mean it like that, but I too would be extremely offended if I had vitiligo and he said that to me. The only problem with her being on the show is either she wins because she has vitiligo (sympathy vote) or are loses because she has vitiligo and most companies can’t look past it and see she’s gorgeous. Good luck honey bun.

That’s just like white ppl calling their black friends the N word. Some black ppl are coo with having their white friends call them the N word. But white ppl from the outside looking in now think its okay to call all black ppl the N word based on one particular instance. So I don’t think she is personally offended (based on the convo and their relationship) but when she’s on a national show she has to be aware of being called a panda really means for ppl with her skin condition. Simply because it can easy be turn into a hurtful term for the next person with the same condition. He is absolutely insane if he can see where she’s coming from. Its pretty simple and she was pretty clear.

This is one of the first TGJ threads that actually doesn’t have a bunch of nonsense in it. She definitely has the right to address him and let him know that it’s not ok. The thing is, she was not saying that she was personally offended. She was being responsible because she knows the platform she has, and if she did not say something, that supposed “term of endearment” could easily be taken to a different level. A place where his pet name could be used in other circumstances in a pejorative manner. Honestly, his reaction to her merits a very stern talking to from the producers (at the very least). She tried to handle it in a very calm way and he essentially spit in her face; when she was already down. It’s so sad that people can be so callous.

Agreed. If he just listened he may have learned something. I can’t stand ignorant people and even worst people who are content in their ignorance.

I’m not sure what part he doesn’t understand. Whether or not he was saying it to hurt her they are still on national tv and there are people out there in the world see this and WILL try to use this name to hurt her. He’s childish.
