“There’s never been a closet”
Those were the words of popular ‘Empire’ star Jussie Smollett while chatting with talk show maven Ellen today.
Guesting on show to promote the FOX smash, the 31-year-old – who plays rising gay singer Jamal on the Lee Daniels drama – initially avoided the topic of his real-life sexuality. Instead, he requested to sit down with the host in a more intimate setting backstage to open up about his truth.

“It was really important to me to make sure that it got across that there is no closet,” There’s never been a closet. That I’ve been in. I don’t own a closet, I got a dresser, but I don’t have a closet, but I have a home and that is my responsibility to protect that home.
So that’s why I choose not to talk bout my personal life. But there is without a doubt, no closet that I’ve ever been in, and I just wanted to make that clear, but it was most important for me to make that clear to you on your show at this time in the world. And that’s where I’m at. So lets not read into it the wrong when I say that I don’t talk about my personal life, I’m saying that. But it is in no way to hide or deny who god made me. Ya know?”
My mama knows. My Mama likes me a lot. And yes I take her to the Sound of Music sing-along every, single year. So, any questions? But you know honestly, we’re humans and we love and we do all that good stuff. So I’m honored for this opportunity and I’m honored to be here with you”.
Did he really need to come out though? I been it was already implied he was gay before the show even came on.

Why does coming out have to be an event…. Its just a call for attention and for the spotlight. Everything doesnt need to be “ANNOUNCED”, especially in his case, because for one, The only people who didnt already know he was gay, was the delusional female fans of the show that wanted his D like it usually always is.

It’s annoying that in America they make coming out such a HUGE Factor, at this point sexuality should not matter, saying that though, I Love Jussie Smallet, I love him and i can’t wait for his album, him on Frank Ocean on a duet! lol
I applaud him for confirming this. It’s never easy admitting one’s sexuality, especially with all the homophobia in the world. You’re a wonderful human being, and who you choose to have in your bed should never matter.

Most of y’all are gay, bi or straight, yet accept the lifestyle . But you have to remember, just because YOU’RE ok being gay or ok with the lifestyle and is comfortable with it, doesn’t mean most of the world is. You gotta think of the ones that don’t know how to come out, the ones that are bullied, hurt or killed or killing themselves because they feel alone. So maybe seeing this on tv MORE, will help THEM. And maybe to change the thoughts of the ones that hate it, with more of this in the media will anger some, but in time will teach them or the very least the next generation.
