During a press call to plug FOX‘s Fall 2015-2016 programming, network chiefs Dana Walden and Gary Newman revealed that the sophomore run of the music drama will consist of 18 episodes – six more than the 12 episode order for first season.
Interestingly, the show will adopt the station’s new format which will split the season in two – nine episodes in the Fall (with a cliffhanger) and nine episodes in the Spring.
In other ‘Empire’ news, it has been confirmed that singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has signed on to the show as a musical producer. The role will see the crooner craft tracks for the show’s characters, much like Timbaland (who will also stay on as the series’ Executive Music Producer).
