Winning: ‘The Perfect Guy’ Tops US Box Office

Urban reigns supreme once again at the US box office.

Screen Gems’ ‘The Perfect Guy’ (which stars Michael Early, Sanaa Lathan, and Morris Chestnut) has opened up at #1 on the Stateside tally after fending off competition from ‘The Visit.’

Details below…

The psychological thriller drummed up an estimated $26.7 million from 2,221 theaters and averaged $12,022 per theater.

Interestingly, the David M. Rosenthal-directed flick cost just $12 million to make and has been received positively by critics.

Hence, not only has it already made a hefty profit, it bodes well for the future of (non-stereotypical) movies led by ethnic talent.

Congrats to all involved!

Sanaa was just talking about respect in the movie industry and her & other black actors being labeled urban movies because there is a black lead . And TGJ first words “urban reigns supreme…”.
