It’ll take more than unfavourable reviews to sink ‘Suicide Squad’s box office ship.
Slapped, kicked and punched by critics, the movie’s cast undoubtedly spent most of its opening weekend and ducking from and dodging claims that it did not live up to its hype.
Fortunately, even if that is true, its numbers tell a very different story.

The movie swept up $135.1 million, seeing it set a new record for August movie releases and outperforming each and every one of Will Smith‘s cinematic efforts to date.
Who the ‘Squad’ had to beat to reach its record?
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and the $94.3 million it collected in its opening weekend in 2014.
That isn’t all.
When the movie’s global figures are thrown into the mix, ‘Squad’ arrives at the $267 million point with help from 57 markets.
How much it cost to shoot (and reshoot) the release?
$175 million.
Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president deduced:
It bested anything that we could have expected. The marketing campaign was brilliant and the performances by the cast, starting with Viola Davis, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, were just extraordinary. They’re fun and wicked and fans enjoy it.
There’s a major disconnect with between what the critics are saying and what audiences are seeing.

Tom Hardy was supposed to be in this film

Tom Hardy is amazing. I´ll treasure his job and Charlize´s in last years Fury Road forever. That film was a masterpiece for the genre. And both, despite being subtle performances, were phenomenal.
I thought it was a good movie and I don’t even follow that whole DC Comic thing. I don’t know why the critics are mad. I enjoyed myself.
I’m getting really tired of those so called critics destroying anything that is not a generic overly kid friendly Disney movie eggs on their face because guess what It didn’t only beat the previous record held by Guardian of the overrated Galaxy but it detroyed sike?. anyway the movie is ton of Fun Harely Quinn is ???????????????? when will Gamora bih when ?????
You´re right. There´s been so much bias lately. Hope it stops. It´s not only Marvel but everything with Disney behind. The last Star Wars (Force Awakens) was so over rated by a big part of the critics too. I don´t know if it was just nostalgia or what, but it was an average Disney-like film, well made, but not much more, to deserve such big praise. Thankfully awards season didn´t buy any of taht and paid it dust, and chose to pick two way better blockbusters with real artistry: The Martian and especially Fury Road.
Wow the film really did big business in the States first week. I was a little bit wary with those predictions saying it was gonna mae way over 100 mil cause… I don´t know. Don´t fanboys always label DC films as flops and Marvel films as big success? Turth is this could be a “rare” comic book film for people as much as Guardians, but this one did more, and not by making it family-friendly by Disney so that more kids can go and spend mobey. Truth is, for all the heat they got, the Spiderman films (the last ones) did as much money as those mediocre Thor films for example, and we have to buy some are being phenomenal successes and the others flops… Some bias going on with these comic book film universe.
That said, this particular one may be really worse than the average comic book film since critics I trust a lot and that even liked BvS and some other films which became underserving bashing parties have said this one really is a mess. Although everubody seems to agree the actors did their job.
I was so excited for this film, but have agreed with pretty much everything the critics have said, except the ones who’ve bashed Leto, who I think is perfect in it. Robbie is great too, but there is a terrible villain, a shoddy plot and the film is really badly edited and largely incoherent. The most frustrating thing about it is that it often shows glimpses of the amazing film that it might have been. I think it’s going to have a huge second week drop, and will do nothing to revive DC’s losing streak in terms of brand reputation. So disappointing. Still worth watching for Leto’s brief screen time though.
That´s what I´ve heard about the quality of the film. Also that it had those glimpses. However, you can clearly see by the numbers and also the BvS ones, that despite everything and against all odss, their universe is not flopping at all. The day they achieve a hugely praised film they will murder the box office.
The movie was meh. DC cut great trailers, but always fall short.
Im not a DC film fan, And havent seen the film yet, I honestly didnt get all the hype in the first place. However I will support Viola Davis in my absolute fav show HTGAWM when it returns to my tv screen!
Oh she was great in it. EVeryone was, the plot was basic.
