‘Hidden Figures’ is making major moves at the box office and it’s all thanks to you!

This weekend the movie opened in 2,4000 theatres nationwide and, by way of ticket sales, generated $7,570,000 at the box office within 24 hours.
When this number is added to the numbers it moved following its Christmas Day release, the movie’s overall figure rises to the $10 million mark and is now expected to pull in around $22 million by midnight tonight!
Forbes’ Scott Mendelson explains why its success is important for Hollywood as it strives to diversify the movie landscape:
As much as I would like to see this film become a major Oscar contender (nominations, if not wins), it’s more important than it makes a lot of money so as to convince would-be investors and studios that this kind of film (fronted by an African-American cast) can actually be profitable. So yeah, it’s one of my favorite films of the year and you should absolutely check it out. Oh, and it’s rated PG so you can/should bring the kids.
‘Figures’ stars Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, Kevin Costner, Taraji P. Henson, Mahershala Ali, Kirsten Dunst and Jim Parsons and was directed by Theodore Melfi on a budget of $25 million.
The true story was based on the book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly.

Hidden Figures is currently tied for #1 with Rogue One at the weekend box office, both films earning $22 million. The final numbers released on Monday will determine which film is actually #1 but it will be a tight race. I’m so proud of this film, led by a black cast and showing film studios that these types of films can have large audiences.
This film is very inspirational. The challenges these women had to face while working at a white male-dominated NASA showed how hard work and determination can break the glass ceilings of the impossible.

I saw it Christamas Day during the limited viewing/screening in Atlanta and I was a awesome film. The movie was truely inspirational! Glad to this movie rack in money and see our black talent get the recognition it deserves!
Never had movie have me on the edge of my seat literally.. go support films about us. We have to support us because we are all we have ! If you haven’t seen you definitely should go out and see it . You won’t be disappointed!
Saw the movie Fences yesterday and I loved it! Viola and Denzel are phenomal. Can’t wait to watch this next. Black excellence!
