ABC is trying its hand at the singing format once again with new show ‘Boyband.’

THR confirms that the network has ordered a 10-episode series that will sees contestants battle it out to join a new male music group.
Details such as judges, host, and format specifics are scarce. But the show is being produced by Matador Content (the team behind ”Lip Sync Battle’) and has been confirmed for a Summer 2017 launch.
It marks ABC’s return to the singing competition arena after last year’s ‘Rising Star’ was cancelled after gravity snatched those ratings down to the ground.
Could the network’s latest swing of the bat prove to be the winner?

The news arrives at an interesting junction. For, as reported, rival networks (including NBC, who air ‘The Voice’) are said to be in a fierce bidding war for the rights to air a revived ‘American Idol.’

They did have the 1st season of making the band with otwon before MTV took it and did 2 more seasons with it and gave it to diddy. That was the early days of reality TV, when it was a documentary and not about the personality 109% and creating fake stories
Yeah I miss those days when it was exciting and real people. These days it’s wannabe models and just filled with pretty peoples or drama

They still make money and that’s what it’s about. So your quite false.
How do you figure that when boy bands were huge every decade, but the mid 00s to when 1D came out. It isn’t a oy band thing, but groups not being a thing.

It could work if the group is super talented and likable, EXO and BTS are touring worldwide and getting bigger, there’s no competition in the English market.

If it’s a competition to form a new boy band, I’ll pass. We all know how these manufactured groups turn out. If it’s a show to find the hottest boy band out right now (a la American Idol but you have to be a group), I’m here for that. I’m ready for R&B groups to be a thing again.
