The masses clearly can’t get enough of the Flosse Posse!

Universal’s ‘Girls Trip’ shows no signs of slowing its slay at the US box office.

Full story below…

Now in its second weekend, the R-Rated comedy is on course to generate another $20 million, bringing its to-date total gross to a whopping $65.4 million. It slips just one place to #3.

A win on many a front.

‘Girls Trip’ was made on a $28 million budget and has, in little over one week, almost tripled that figure. And that’s just in the US. It’s also on the cusp of becoming director Will Packer‘s best performing movie at the Stateside box office (‘The Best Man Holiday’ sits at $70 million).

Anchored by Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, and Jada Pinkett Smith, the flick follows a group a friends as they journey to the Essence Music Festival.

We’re still laughing weeks on from seeing the movie and are elated that it’s dominating like this.

It goes to show that, when backed, movies led by a Black cast and director can be appealing to the masses and ultimately hugely profitable for studios.

Universal must be mulling a sequel at this point. Must be.

The film is a quality, well written & executed project that deserves the support it is receiving. It was also made on a $19 million dollar budget & NOT $28. The film has has more than tripled its investment in a seven day period.

How many times are we going to have to keep proving ourselves in movies? Even Nollywood makes millions. Funny we know we can sell music and have the biggest acts that have been ripped off and copied but over and over again.. oh yes we can sell black african movies!! Duh!! Stop begging for euro white approval..keep making our own!!!! Show up in your African Garb for Black Panther and hold your head high!!!!

Malcolm Lee (Spike Lee’s cousin) directed this movie. Will Packer produced it.
