After four seasons, it’s curtains for ‘Being Mary Jane.’ But fret not because the BET series is being given a seismic send-off.

The Gabrielle Union show will be ending as it began in 2013 – as a TV movie.

Deadline confirms that the drama will end in the same manner in 2018.

News of the TV special comes three weeks after the season 4 finale of the show, which was created by Mara Brock Akil and husband Salim Akil.

Speaking on the culmination of the popular show, Connie Orlando, EVP and Head of Programming, BET, said in a statement:

Being Mary Jane has been a landmark series not only for BET, but for African American women around the world who saw themselves in Mary Jane, her family, friends and coworkers. From the captivating storytelling, to the richly complex characters, to the powerful issues tackled on the series, we remain immensely proud. We are grateful to the cast and creators of Being Mary Jane, who have worked tirelessly to bring this world to vivid life over the past 4 seasons. We also thank the many loyal viewers whose hearts and minds were captured every week, and kept Mary Jane trending worldwide. We look forward to closing out Mary Jane’s journey with a series finale that is sure to blow fans away!”

There’s no word yet on who’ll be at the directorial helm. And things on that front may be tricky to pinpoint.

The Akil’s left their role as show-runners for an overall deal at Warner Bros. TV (although they continued on as exec producers). While Erica Shelton Kodish, who took the wheel of the controversial 20-episode fourth season, recently  for an overall deal at CBS.

In any case, while we’re sad to see the show go, it’s warming to know it’s being wrapped up in a format that’ll hopefully give viewers a satisfying climax (in place of a fifth season).
