‘Get Out’: Social Media Weighs In On ‘Best Comedy’ Drama

Published: Wednesday 15th Nov 2017 by David

For many, the box-office smashing ‘Get Out’ offered the world an innovative and pungent look into the commodification of black people and their bodies.

Alas, after spending the last year receiving praise for raising the public’s consciousness on the matter and standing tall as the year’s most profitable release, the movie now finds itself at the heart of Golden Globe-related drama.

Why?

Find out below…

Original contemporary horror films often find themselves shut out during awards season. So, with this in mind, the studio behind ‘Get Out’ has submitted as a comedy for next year’s Golden Globes with hopes doing so will see it bag a gong on the night.

This news hasn’t gone down well with those who believe the project’s message is too serious to be considered comedic.

The Golden Globes are to take place on January 7th 2018.

Thats shady but hollywood always has been i think black ppl should make our own oscars and the awards be a fist for whom ever wins.
GET OUT was a good movie but not a damn comedy.

The tweet from @kona99 explained it completely. Submitting it as a comedy was the studio’s call in order to get an award, not the Golden Globes call. So the public’s issue needs to be with the studio that submitted it, not the GG.

….but on the other hand, they could have easily submitted it as a drama film, so the complaints are legitimate.

The studios are the ones who submit the film’s. The golden globes don’t select which film’s get considered, they narrow down the submissions to five or 6 nominees. But I didn’t laugh once watching get out and like the one above said, they could have easily submitted it in the drama category because it wasn’t that much of your ‘horror film’ imo. At least it got nominated so I’m here for that. But that’s like putting a rapper in a rock category, doesn’t make sense.

It happens all the time. Actors are often promoted for supporting actor categories despite being a lead or co-lead just to have more chances. It works liek that. Some people need to stop making everything about… I don´t know why. Believe me, the film has more possibilities like this. Does anybody think that film (which was very good) is deserving of best film OF THE YEAR???? lol Especially among dramas? People really don´t know what they talk about. It was very well made, but teh concept was far from new. They are not going to reward this film like that. Not when the bunch of independent art films are just starting to come.
Also, I did laugh a few times with the film. The few scenes with the leading character´s friend were there for comedic relief. And it was pretty funny.
