Much ado was made about ABC‘s American Idol reboot starring Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. But it seems the show is proving its power straight out of the gate.
More on the the revived ratings slay after the jump…
According to overnight data, the show’s Sunday night launch was watched by 10.3 million. The all-important 18-34 rating came in at 2.3.
The feat saw Idol command the highest audience of the night – besting out the much hyped O.J Simpson interview over at the show’s former network FOX.
Delving into the numbers a lil more, it wasn’t a ball out of the park scenario, as the stats were a slightly lower than the premiere of the last FOX season in 2016. That cycle debuted to 10.96 million viewers and a 3.0 rating. Hence, the 16th incarnation of Idol was down 6% in total viewers.
Still, ABC’s version opens with numbers that are on-par with the average ratings of its last run. And the numbers could well grow when +1 data are factored in. What’s more, Idol helped ABC secure its most-watched Sunday night in over five years.
