Music and technology converged in a unique way Wednesday evening at Mobvoi’s #LookUpLondon event.

Hosted on the rooftop of the plush Ace Hotel, the elaborate gathering saw the innovative brand unveil a number of new products (including the TicPods Free headphones). Moreover, it was the first ever tech launch with a mobile phone ban.

The rationale? To encourage people to embrace their surroundings and live in the moment!

And guests were more than ready to adhere once performer Gabrielle Aplin took to the stage to perform a rousing 30 minute set.

Details below…

Attendees were permitted to film the initial moments of her showing, but were tasked with doing away with their gadgets for the remainder.

An instruction many found easy thanks to Aplin’s soothing coos.

Speaking on the movement, the gifted 26-year-old singer and instrumentalist said:

“I love what this campaign stands for. I believe in the idea of using technology for what you need but also making sure it doesn’t stop you from experiencing life in the moment.”

She continued, adding:

“After people were asked to put their phones away, I could sense this slightly unsure feeling in the room. Especially at an event to launch a tech product, it seemed counter-productive but the audience really let themselves go and got into the songs quickly and helped create an atmosphere where everyone was in the moment and enjoying the music.really enjoyed taking time to look away, look up and really get into the gig.”
