‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ Star Sues Fornite Game For Stealing Iconic Dance Move

Published: Monday 17th Dec 2018 by David

Alfonso Ribeiro is ready to enjoy the fruits of his creative labor.

Fruits, many believe have been exploited by Fortnite.

Full story below…

As the Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s Carlton Banks, Alfonso popularised a dance move now known as The Carlton and watched it permeate Pop culture.

Alas, Ribeiro now believes that Epic Games stole the dance and called it the Fresh Emote and is taking legal action against them as he gears up to copyright the dance to protect it from theft.

His legal team explains…

It is widely recognized that Mr. Ribeiro’s likeness and intellectual property have been misappropriated by Epic Games in the most popular video game currently in the world, Fortnite.

Epic has earned record profits off of downloadable content in the game, including emotes like “Fresh.” Yet Epic has failed to compensate or even ask permission from Mr. Ribeiro for the use of his likeness and iconic intellectual property.

Alfonso isn’t the first creative of color to accuse the game of theft.

Epic is yet to respond.

WHAT we are not gonna do is pretend like Carlton invented this dance. CLEARLY, this dance belongs to Chubby Checkers in the 1960s. Carlton stole it from his song “Let’s Twist Again” which is a derivative of another Chubby Checker’s song “The Twist”:

Really? I guess he needs the money!

ITS not about needing money but you can’t make millions off something someone else created and don’t compensate them. This happens far too much.

He didn’t create it..though. Courtney C** and Eddie Murphy…did. While I’m usually for artists of color getting their due he needs to sit down. Married a Non-Black woman and never speaks on Black issues. Wouldn’t be surprised if he voted for Trump. He is a “Safe” Black man. The face of keeping us people of melanin complacent as if nothing is wrong.
