Kiki Layne of the smash hit movie ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ is said to be hard at work with a very lofty goal in mind.
A goal, should she get her way, will see her become the first black woman to portray the African superhero Storm!
Layne has earned the wave of positive reviews she is receiving since starring in ‘Beale’ and is actively pursuing the lead role in the closely guarded Storm movie after learning that the character is on its way to the Disney/Marvel family.
Please watch the video below for context…
She was an image of myself, of a powerful Black woman, and I just think that’s an amazing image to have, and I really want to play Storm.
She added, after learning that Marvel could be developing X-Men movies in the first quarter of this year, that her agents are “actively plotting.”
Stay tuned for more on this promising news.
She would be a beautiful Storm ?..
Now this would be a STORM. Finally.
But the role belongs to Halle Berry
Don’t start. She ruined that AND Catwoman.
Finally we’ll have a black Storm and not a biracial one. Halle and this new girl we’re horribly miscast. Now maybe we’ll get one closer to the comics with DARK skin, white hair, and BLUE eyes.
Didn’t they already have a new storm in that last movie?
The X-Men films starring Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp
The X-Men and Fantastic Four are Marvel properties. In 1994 20th Century Fox purchased the film rights for the X-Men/Fantastic Four. The X-Men films starring Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp as Storm are films created and released by Fox.
Currently, Disney (which acquired Marvel in 2009) is in the process of acquiring Fox, who currently holds the film rights to X-Men/Fantastic Four. Once Disney’s acquisition of Fox finalizes sometime this year, the X-Men/Fantastic Four film rights will return back to Marvel. Marvel will not continue the X-Men/Fantastic Four films universe established by 20th Century Fox. Marvel will create new X-Men /Fantastic Four movies which will connect to the movies already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). So basically, the new X-Men/Fantastic Four films -created and released by Marvel – will exist in the same cinematic universe as the Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Avengers films.
The role now belongs to Alexandra Shipp
Eww she would be a horrible storm! I want to see Danai or Lupita in the role! I know they were in Black Panther but they definitely would be great. If not they should go straight to African Hollywood to cast! There are tons of beautiful African women who have talent up the Wazoo! Who I’m sure would resemble storm
How on earth can Lupita play 2 characters in one movie dumba$$. The storm they cast will be the same storm in the next black Panther movie.
Currently, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o already have roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Danai Gurira is Okoye and Lupita Nyong’o is Nakia in the Black Panther film. Once Disney’s acquisition of Fox is complete this year, the X-Men/Fantastic Four will join the same cinematic universe as the Black Panther film. It would not make since for either of the two actresses to play Storm because they already have roles in Black Panther. Hope this makes sense.
sense*
Would love to see Angela Basett but too bad she already plays in black panther.
Exactly. ..if Angela Bassett were younger she’d be the perfect Storm. But this Kiki Layne would definitely be a great cast for the role. Put her on some good work regimen tho.
Um, Halle Berry is the first Black woman to play Storm. Doesn’t matter if she’s “biracial” or whatever. She’s a Black woman, period.
PERIODT!
TGj get the facts rite she whould be the third black woman.
Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp are BIRACIAL and LOOK IT. They are proud of BOTH SIDES. This is a fully Black woman.
