FX Renews ‘Atlanta’ For Season 4 Ahead of Season 3 Premiere

Published: Wednesday 7th Aug 2019 by Rashad

Despite Donald Glover‘s hectic schedule as a musician and Hollywood star that’s seen him tackle roles in front of and behind the camera lens, the Emmy winner is still committed to the hit TV series that’s in great part responsible for his workload – FX’s ‘Atlanta.’

That dedication was echoed by Eric Schrier – President of FX Entertainment – recently at the Television Critics Association summer press tour when he announced that Glover’s award-winning series has been gifted an early renewal for a fourth season…ahead of its Season 3 premiere.

Details inside:

“What more can be said about Atlanta than the critical acclaim and accolades that Donald, Paul, Dianne, Stephen and Hiro have earned for two exceptional seasons of what is clearly one of the best shows on television,” said Schrier. “This group of collaborators and cast have created one of the most original, innovative stories of this generation and we are proud to be their partners.”

While the show’s season 3 renewal was announced last summer (as we reported here), it and season 4 will not begin production until Spring 2020.

FX CEO John Landgraf addressed the lengthy delay from season 2 to season 3 of the show:

As you might imagine, Donald Glover is sort of the king of all media, and he just has had an incredibly complicated life. He’s had personal things he’s had to deal with, from injuries to other things I’d rather not say publicly that just have to do not with his personal life, but his extended family.

One of the things that is just a reality of television today is you have to wait. We have so many things now that don’t cycle back on a regular basis…. From my standpoint, I wish for the fans as well as for us that we could get everything back on an annual basis but, again, you just have to make a decision about quantity over quality at a certain point — and we’re just erring on the side of quality.

As of time reported, season 3’s premiere date has not been revealed.
