‘Americanah,’ the best selling novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is heading to HBO Max with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o at its helm.

Nyong’o, who acquired the televisual rights to the book, has made no secret of her infatuation with its narrative, which chronicles the lives of its central characters Ifemelu and Obinze.
Against the backdrop of their love story is a multi-layered coming of age tale; one which explores the intricacies of life in Nigeria, emigration to the US, culture clash, and more in the most universal and enchanting manner.
Now it’s being brought to life as a 10-episode special series on HBO Max.
Per Deadline, Nyong’o will star in the lead role of Ifemelu and also executive produce.
Interestingly, her ‘Black Panther’ co-star Danai Gurira – who wrote the pilot – will serve as ‘Americanh’s show-runner.
Speaking in a statement, Nyong’o said:
“Americanah has been a passion project for me since I read Chimamanda’s beautiful novel in 2013. It’s a tale that is simultaneously timely and timeless. HBO Max is the perfect partner to bring this profound and celebrated story to life, and I’m thrilled that Danai will bring to the project her intelligence, wit, and understanding of the stories and the worlds of Americanah.”
