Just 5 months after ABC unveiled news they were set to revive their classic live sketch comedy series, ‘Kids Say the Darndest Things’ (as we reported here), the show – toplined by Tiffany Haddish – made its premiere to rave reviews from industry critics and viewers alike on October 6.

Boasting a rich history with incarnations dating as far back as 1945, ‘Kids’ – which fuses taped and live audience comedy segments – has been hosted by the likes of Bill Cosby and Steve Harvey in earlier incarnations.  Making history as its first female host and executive producer, Haddish brought the funny like only she can much to the delight of viewers who took to social media to praise the comedienne’s interaction with her kid co-hosts and guests.

Pulling in 5.4 million viewers, the series came as the day’s most watched non-scripted program on broadcast television (excluding news and sports).

ABC’s “Kids Say the Darndest Things” stood as the No. 2 series debut this season in Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 – tie), behind only Fox’s “Prodigal Son” by just 1-tenth of a rating point despite airing against NFL coverage. The debut of “Kids Say” improved over the premiere of “DWTS: Juniors” in the hour on the year-ago night by 8% in Total Viewers (5.4 million vs. 5.0 million) and by 29% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.7/3), marking the Net’s most-watched fall premiere in the slot in 4 years – since 9/27/15. [source]
