Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature designed to celebrate the best of TV and Film.
Today, we take a fresh look at ‘Candyman.’
The supernatural horror release rocked theatres back in 1992 and told the gruesome tale of the son of an enslaved man who was murdered by a gang of racist cowards after he fell in love with a white woman after the civil war.
Several years later, he returns to wreak havoc on the society which took everything from his people.
Jordan Peele is to revive the story with his own interpretation of the movie this year.
Definitely a fan of Candyman. Grew up on horror and this was THE ONLY thing that could scare me. I would be scared to go to the bathroom after watching ???. Excited about the remake now that I’ve seen the trailer. Tony Follows me on Insta??
A remake will never do this classic JUSTICE. It’s perfect in every way.
I re-watched the original on Netflix a few weeks ago and that ish was STUPID. I don’t know how it scared so many people.
I’m just happy a black horror movie is receiving the FULL HOLLYWOOD treatment … because we never get this type of attention for our movies, especially our horror movies.
I’ll be watching!
