‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’: Whitney Houston’s Big Screen Biopic Announced

Published: Wednesday 22nd Apr 2020 by Rashad

Whitney Houston fans who felt Lifetime’s 2015 small screen biopic didn’t do a diva of her stature justice may be elated to learn her iconic story is headed to the big screen courtesy of her Pat Houston-run estate.

Details inside:

Report:

“A feature film on the life of iconic songstress Whitney Houston is fast forming. The Whitney Houston Estate, Primary Wave and Grammy-winning music producer Clive Davis have teamed up for ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody.’ They are negotiating with ‘The Photograph’ helmer Stella Meghie to direct.

Scripting and producing is Anthony McCarten, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter who wrote the biographical films The Two Popes, Darkest Hour, Bohemian Rhapsody, and The Theory Of Everything.

The Whitney Houston film will be produced by Pat Houston on behalf of the Houston Estate, Davis, Larry Mestel on behalf of Primary Wave Music, Denis O’Sullivan, and McCarten through his Muse of Fire Productions banner. Primary Wave Music is a partner of the Whitney Houston estate. The film will benefit from the use of Houston’s many hit songs.”

Pat Houston released a statement on the forthcoming film:

“The Estate of Whitney Houston is more than elated to be involved with a group of people that are as passionate about Whitney’s life story as we are. Whitney’s legacy deserves only the best that can be given. I stand with the hearts of these partners being the chosen ones to produce a film that’s uplifting and inspiring to all that loved her, giving you a reason to continue to celebrate The Voice that we all fell in love with and will cherish forever!”

While Houston’s life has been the topic of a number of movie projects since her 2012 death, ‘Dance’ comes as the second Houston Estate-approved motion picture to hit theaters following 2018’s ‘Whitney’ documentary.

    She was a lesbian.
    Put that in the movie.

    Who is gonna play her?
I cant think of one black actress that will do whitney justice in portraying her

If they don’t put the bit with her running up to Brandy / Monica / Clive with BK and slipping Brandy the note (plus what was on that note)…they can keep it. Pat Houston is Satan incarnate ?

They will keep it clean and soft to not hurt her memory and legacy.

With all this pandemic happening this gives them time to find a great unknown actress. They have nothing but time to find a woman who can act look like Whitney and demand the testing room like it’s the stage.

Whitney’s life was too BIG for the BIG SCREEN. She needs a 6 hour mini-series to really tell her story in full. It is too much to squeeze into 2 hours and some change. An unknown must play her there is no one out who can do her justice looks-wise. They must use Whitney’s masters because anyone else singing is not going to do. Most of the Pat Houston and Clive should be no where near this story. They are going to gloss over the real drama which was Whitney’s trying to live up to her religious expectations and conquering her demons while making history at the same damn time. I believe Whitney had a sexual relationship with Robyn but I believe that it ended at 18 years old like Robyn said. Whitney wasn’t a lesbian because there is no evidence she dated any other woman other than Robyn. Whitney’s story was too complex for a 2 hour movie so no I can’t support it.
