The Muses: 10 Names Disney MUST Consider for the Live Action ‘Hercules’

Published: Friday 8th May 2020 by Rashad

As we reported here last week, Disney is breathing new life into its classic animated feature ‘Hercules.’

Having strong-armed the box office competition upon its 1997 release (to the tune of over $252 million grossed world wide), there are undoubtedly great expectations for its soon-to-come live action remake.

And, while the re-adaptation’s official cast has yet to be announced, fans of the original have already begun throwing in the names of modern day favorites to fill the shoes of the main hero and other memorable characters from the film.

With a focal part of ‘Herc’s story being the narration by the Gospel-flavored Muses, That Grape Juice has assembled the top 10 ladies we at least want to be part of the conversation when Disney considers who should don their iconic white gowns.

In the original film, The Muses – Calliope, Clio, Melpomene, Terpsichore, and Thalia – are a sassy and soulful quintent who energetically recount the myth of ‘Hercules.’  Their whimsical narration, chock full of soaring vocals and high octane choreography, was not only a cultural nod from Disney but also the first time one of their animations featured content that was so unapologetically Black.

To recreate those scenes in a live action format, the enlisted would not only have to have the voices but also the style, grace, glamour, and harmony afforded the first fivesome.

Below, we’ve rounded up 10 names we hope are shortlisted to do the job.
