After ‘Tiger King’ exploded as Netflix most popular documentary ever, many of Hollywood’s top names threw their names in the hat to portray the doc’s central character – Joe Exotic – in a scripted format (series or film).
Although it’s been reported there are multiple projects in the works loosely based on the streaming giant’s jaw-dropping recount of Exotic’s life and shenanigans, the first announced will star Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage.

The eight-episode limited series will go to market in the next few days. Based on the Texas Monthly article Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild, by Leif Reigstad, the story centers around Joe Shreibvogel, an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park — even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.”
