After much ado, ‘Waiting To Exhale’ is heading back to screens.
As reported, the title is being reimagined as a TV series – rather than returning as a movie sequel to the original 1995 film.
Terry McMillan, who penned the book that birthed all that came after, exclusively shared the news with That Grape Juice.

Deadline reports that ABC have given a script commitment to the show, which is being executive produced by Lee Daniels via his Lee Daniel Entertainment umbrella.
Sisters Attica Locke (‘When They See Us’) and Tembi Locke (‘Never Have I Ever’) are at the helm of the writing, and will also exec produce alongside Daniels.
Anthony Hemingway has been tapped to direct, while Terry McMillan serves as consulting producer.
As for what viewers can expect, the first synopsis shares:
‘Waiting To Exhale’ is infused with the humor, sensuousness, and sincerity of the groundbreaking and beloved original film. The TV reimagining looks at the next generation of our women through the lens of the tangled friendships and complicated lives of their daughters.
Expectations will no doubt be high for the show, given the commercial success of the movie (which has grossed over $82 million) and its enduring cultural impact.
And while the combination of Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon will be difficult to top, we are intrigued about the next chapter.
