The Weeknd has taken the music world by storm and is now looking to make a splash in another media – television.

For, the superstar has been tapped to star in a new HBO cult drama named ‘The Idol.’

The show centers on a female pop singer who starts a romance with a mysterious Los Angeles club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.

The Weeknd is set to star in the series and also serves as one of its co-writers.

He also is credited as one of ‘The Idol’s co-creators alongside ‘Euphoria’ creator Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim.

Though most renowned for his musical prowess, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) isn’t a stranger to the TV arena. He previously wrote and starred in an episode of ‘American Dad.’
