Dwayne Johnson has another hit movie on his hands.
His latest project – ‘Jungle Cruise’ – has sailed to the top of the box office with massive opening numbers.
Full story below…
According to Bloomberg, in the film’s inaugural weekend, the project earned a massive $34.1 million, which is more than the originally projected $25 million to $30 million domestically.
Globally, Disney‘s latest film earned $90 million with $27.6 million at the international box office and more than $30 million from Disney Plus.
Most notably, ‘Cruise’ earned more than five times its closest competitor. ‘The Green Knight’ came in second place with $6.78 million.
Prior to its arrival, the film’s cast assembled for a special Q&A – which That Grape Juice attended.
Explaining why he immediately took to the role, Johnson told the press conference:
“The script was in a great place. I immediately saw the potential of the opportunity. And that opportunity was to take a beloved, iconic Disney ride – since 1955 when it opened – this was Walt Disney’s baby. There were a lot of elements that made me say ‘yes, I’ll come on-board and partner with you guys and we will develop this thing.’ And we got it to a really great place.
After finding our director (Jaume Collet-Serra), the next step was finding my co-star (Emily) – the female Indiana Jones!”
Suffice to say, the all of the elements aligned for what is a must-see movie.
M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Old’ follows with $6.76 million and ‘Black Widow’ placed fourth after a tumultuous week between Scarlett Johansson and Disney.
