Will Smith BANNED from the Oscars for 10 Years Over Chris Rock Slap, But Will Keep Academy Award

Published: Friday 8th Apr 2022 by Sam

In breaking news, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has announced the sanctions it’s handed down to Will Smith in the wake of his behavior at the 94th Annual Oscars.

As widely reported, the Hollywood titan slapped Chris Rock live on the broadcast after the comedian made a jab at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith‘s bald ‘do (which was caused by health issue alopecia).

Now, in the wake of Will’s voluntary resignation from the Academy, the governing body has formalized the ramifications the Best Actor winner will be subject to.

Full story below…

In an official announcement made moments ago, the 53-year-old has been banned from attending Academy events for 10 years.

The full statement read:

“The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage.

During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented.

Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation. The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.

We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast.

This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.”

Reacting to the ruling, Will said in a brief statement:

“I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”

There had been murmurs about Will possibly having to forfeit his Best Actor award (his first and only honor from the Academy), but today’s decision makes clear that such a punishment will not be the case.

Interestingly, Will can still be nominated and even win during this period.

Here’s hoping everyone (literally everyone) can finally move on.

A bit excessive. 5 years would’ve been better. When it actually happened, the audience thought it was a skit, then just moved on. It wasn’t that big of a deal until afterwards. But he was totally wrong!

I disagree. He physically ASSAULTED one of his peers on live television. He’s lucky Chris didn’t press charges. I would have.

That was a “I’m gonna get you sucka” smile. Chris showed self restraint.

Oh well. It’s what he deserves. I thought him and Jada were boycotting the Oscars anyway?

Yup now the white man slapping them pockets been dropped from 3 projects already but hey ignorant blacks happy he did that

      • J April 9, 2022

I’m not his pockets and I’m trying to understand why your tap dancing ass cares about that? He knew what the deal was that night. I don’t know why everyone is acting like he hasn’t been doing this most of his adult life. Will has played the game well and he said f*** it. I feel his sentiment. Unfortunately your slow remedial ass will never understand.

        Keep tap dancing m*****.

Good for his dumb ass. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Dummy thought those white jews in hollywood saw him as their golden boy, and they threw his behind under the bus faster than he slapped chris lol. Those black massa kissing celebrities never learn lol.

Great! Now can this finally be put to bed!! Behind the scenes Will’s career will continue to suffer just because of who Chris Rock is and Chris’ connections. We don’t need to talk about it anymore.

      Hehe

  10. DeanD April 8, 2022

This is bogus. Smith already withdrew from the Academy before they could kick him out and if they already knew they weren’t going to revoke his Oscar than this 10 year ban is just ceremony to save face for bungling the whole thing. Smith is still eligible to be nominated thus win. I feel bad for Chris Rock. He’s hosted the Oscars multiple times and this is how they stand up for him after being assaulted in front of the entire world? A slap on the wrist? Smfh.

    • J April 9, 2022

Glad somebody slapped the doggshit out of that coooon. 👏 Somebody needed to check that m***********

  11. eric April 8, 2022

I had been thinking a five year ban would suffice. 10 is ridiculous. The Academy speaks as though they were unprepared to follow the simplest measure of escorting Will out. They need to get real and face the music along with Will Packer, because not only did they permit Will to go back to his seat, but they provided him another seat at the official after party. The punishment can start with some hefty fines and a two-year ban from live broadcast.

  12. Dumb April 9, 2022

I would’ve Jim Carrey’ed his ass and took his cars, homes, investments, child trusts and more with a huge lawsuit.

    • J April 9, 2022

Jim wouldn’t have told such a corny, dated ass joke
