Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance take center stage in Focus Features‘ latest film, ‘The Silent Twins.’

Heading to theaters this September, the drama shares the gripping true story of twin sisters who only communicated with each other as a means of escaping the harshness of their surroundings.

Based on the lives of identical siblings June and Jennifer Gibbons, ‘The Silent Twins’ is an adaptation of Marjorie Wallace’s best-selling book of the same name.

Directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska and written by Andrea Seigel, the film also sees Wright serve as a co-producer.

Ahead of its September 16 arrival in theaters, check out the first-look trailer below…

Can’t wait for this movie! I hope it is well made with a proper budget. The trailer looks promising but I certainly hope that the story is told chronologically, from the very beginning to the end without a bunch of flashing back and forth like the new trend if movie making that gets on my nerves. I remember seeing a made for TV movie about this same set of twins and their story is unforgettable!

After reading about their story, I’m confused about the inspirational tone in the second half of this trailer – the tagline and words like ‘astounding’ and ‘joyous’. Even in some of the writeups about the film, it makes it sound as though their bond was a good thing, but the truth is dark and tragic. One of the sisters had to meet a sad fate in order for the other to feel that she was finally free of her and able to live a better life. This trailer seems to romanticize a very unsettling story.
