The countdown is officially on to the arrival of the hotly anticipated prequel of ‘The Lion King.’

Following the roaring success of the 2019 live-action remake of the classic (which grossed over 1.6 billion at the global box office), Disney is revisiting the world and characters within.

Powered by photorealistic technology., the new adventure will delve deep into a brand new backstory of ‘The Lion King’ – which chronicles the events that preceded the narrative folk came to know and love.

And now, further details about the film have been revealed.

Moments ago at D23, the media juggernaut confirmed that the movie is titled ‘Mufasa: The Lion King.’

An official image was unleashed in tandem with the news that the film will hit theaters in 2024:

As reported, Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. have been tapped to star in the Barry Jenkins-directed film.

Pierre (pictured above left) will play Mufasa. He recently earned rave reviews for his performance in Amazon Prime’s ‘The Underground Railroad’ – which was also directed by Jenkins.

After wowing in ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7,’ Harrison Jr. (pictured above right) will take on the role of Taka.

Hans Zimmer is back on board to score ‘Mufasa’, while music maestro Pharrell Williams has been tapped to helm the soundtrack.
