The 73rd Annual Primetime EMMYs may have rocked headlines in 2021 for ending a multi-year ratings slump for the ceremony (as we reported here), but its successor can’t boast the same.

Hosted by Kenan Thompson, TV’s biggest night – which aired live Sunday (September 12) – proved itself a historic night for Black women with the likes of Zendaya and ‘Abbott Elementary’ stars Sheryl Lee Ralph and Quinta Brunson marking milestones with their trophy take-homes, but official ratings reports suggest the 74th annual edition of the awards show has also been penciled in history books for another reason: lowest ratings ever.
Having to contend with Monday Night Football’s season debut on ABC and ESPN proved too much for the 2022 EMMYs.
The first time the show aired on a Monday since 2018, the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards raked in 5.92 million viewers – an all-time low for the ceremony (which also streamed on Peacock). The figure represents a 19% viewership drop from what the 73rd Emmys pulled in for CBS.

Award shows and celebrity culture are dated asf. Nobody cares anymore lol. Back in the day celebs had mystique. The only time we could really see them in action outside of work was at award shows. Now most have proven to be annoying and problematic on social media. We do not care. The last time I watched an award show in full was prolly 2015.
